With the present climate crisis that is causing a lot of pressure to adopt efficient alternatives is the biggest challenge facing many industries. In particular air travel, has been viewed (SAF) as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 80% compared to traditional jet fuel - as a strategy to reach carbon reduction targets and reach corporate targets for quotas.

Enter Dimensional Energy. Based out of New York, the company makes use of carbon dioxide emissions as well as water to produce green aviation fuel (SAF) and they are getting noticed - after the company reported today (Dec.12) in which they closed the $20 million deal as part of a Series A financing round, which comprised Microsoft's Climate Fund.

The reason behind offering funding, the director of Microsoft's climate innovation Fund Brandon Middaugh said in a statement:

"The world requires immediate and rapid decarbonization throughout all sectors as well Dimensional Energy shows great promise as a greener and lower carbon aviation option, as well as a reduction in industrial emissions."

"Microsoft has been an early adopter of sustainable aviation fuel and regards this market as essential to global decarbonization. This is why Microsoft's climate innovation fund is a great supporter of Dimensional Energy's work as an equity direct investor."

In addition to the other investors which were led by Envisioning Partners, were: United Airlines' sustainable flight fund, RockCreek's smart aircraft futures fund, DSC Investment, Delek US, New York Ventures, and investors who are already in the market such as Elemental Excelerator and Chloe Capital - helping raise the total amount to $28 million.

In an interview with TechCrunch, Dimensional Energy founder and CEO Jason Salfi said:

"The extraction and production of hydrocarbons has led to not just warming but also the displacement of indigenous communities across the globe as well as a host of environmental disasters."

"Dimensional Energy makes a replacement for oil made from carbon dioxide and water. Dimensional is committed to sourcing feedstocks that are in harmony with the natural environment and communities where plants are built."

Dimensional Energy on the rise

Following this latest investment, the company has announced plans to create a sophisticated power-to liquids fuel plant which will have the fuel supply coming from the Lafarge Richmond Cement Plant located in British Columbia, Canada in partnership with carbon capture company Svante.

The company's other plans include Dimensional Energy's initial direct-to-consumer (BTC) along with BTB (BTB) merchandise, including a fossil-free surf wax as well as a cruelty-free fat alternative customized to cater to vegan food producers.

Dimensional Energy's principal customers are freight companies, airlines and chemical companies. This year, they struck a deal with aircraft maker Boom Supersonic to sell 5 million Gallons of SAF annually for Boom's flight test program.

But, balancing between maintaining sustainability and generating profit isn't easy However, Dimensional earns its revenue through contracted offtake agreements and is seeking long-term contracts with airlines and specialist chemical companies.
